Went to meet a lonnnnnngggg time friend at some local lavender fields and hang out with her while she painted. She's a professional fine artist and does a lot of plein art competitions. This particular farm had a certain charm so it's the place she has been coming back to. They put out lots of Instagram worthy furniture for people to lounge in, photograph, and of course, paint. They have "cut your own" to buy and take home, along with all things lavender: spray it on stuff, wash with it, scrub with it, eat it, roll in it, plant more of it... all so you smell like a million bucks, inside and out.
Here's her little traveling plein air set up.
They had white lavender! (Is that an oxymoron? Can it only be a shade of purple?) I made sure to bring home some.
Did you bring your suit? Apparently you can bathe here if you'd like.
It turned out to be an impromptu day where you don't really know what you're going to find (besides fields and fields of lavender). All in all, it was a wonderful diversion because we've been pretty disheartened. Personally I've been stressed and sad. It's not been a great year except for celebrating That Daughter's accomplishments and graduation in June, and week later Baby Dog did some awesome "winning." I haven't felt like posting, writing, or creating anything outside of work. The fields of purple and white, mingling the intense aroma with the fir trees, gave us just the small break we were needing.
